2003 Summit on Rewarding Career Paths

The First Three Years of Teaching

On September 28-30, 2003, NCTAF hosted its first national summit on "The First Three Years of Teaching" at the Wingspread Conference Center in Racine, Wisconsin. This summit, sponsored by Atlantic Philanthropies and the Johnson Foundation, was the first in a series of three summits and it focused on issues important to retaining quality teachers. NCTAF brought together researchers, policy makers and practitioners in K-16 education to look at what can be done to support beginning teachers and help them develop rewarding career paths to become accomplished teachers. During the intensive 2-½ day working retreat, summit participants concentrated on discussing effective induction and mentoring programs for new teachers.
