Since 1996, the National Commission on Teaching and America’s Future (NCTAF) has worked with national, state, and school district partners to develop policies and programs to ensure that all students have access to caring, competent, and qualified teachers in schools organized for success. Collaborating with others who are striving to implement policies and programs that coincide with our goals for quality teaching has always been an important part of the NCTAF strategy.
Currently, NCTAF partners with coalitions in 25 states and with a growing network of school districts. NCTAF state coalitions include:
Alabama, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, Utah, Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
This national network provides a vehicle for NCTAF coalition members to share strategies and experiences, legislation and policies, promising practices, and state-level action plans that support teaching quality and student achievement.
Members of the NCTAF state coalition network are asked to:
- Establish a broadly representative state policy group committed to working on policy and program development as related to the NCTAF agenda (this may be a new or an existing group);
- Assemble a teaching quality policy inventory which comprehensively looks at the various initiatives underway across the state;
- Develop and implement a strategic action plan that supports and advances quality teaching linked to student achievement.
Working with our state coalition members, NCTAF strives to build awareness among policymakers, practitioners, and the public of the primary role of quality teaching in enhancing student achievement. This collaboration not only gives strong support to state-specific policy goals and priorities, but also provides the opportunity to network with other states in developing strategies that advance a shared vision.
